About
Tim Reid
Dr. Timothy Reid is a Nevada County education leader whose career began in the classroom at Bear River High School, where he taught Agricultural Mechanics and served as an FFA advisor. Working directly with students in hands-on agriculture and Career Technical Education programs shaped his belief that learning should be rigorous, relevant, and connected to real-world skills.
At Bear River High School, Tim taught welding, construction, and agricultural science courses, helping students develop practical job skills while also building leadership, responsibility, and confidence. He worked closely with families, local employers, and community partners to strengthen career pathways and prepare students for success in both college and skilled trades. His experience in agricultural education continues to inform his understanding of rural schools, workforce needs, and the importance of strong CTE programs.
Timothy later served as an Assistant Principal at Nevada Union High School, where he supported Career Technical Education, student discipline, special education services, Title I programs, and campus operations at the district’s largest comprehensive high school. In this role, he worked to strengthen school climate, expand alternatives to suspension, and ensure students across all pathways had the structure and supports they needed to succeed.
Today, Timothy serves as the Director of Pupil Services for the Nevada Joint Union High School District, overseeing special education, nursing services, and school-based mental health programs. In this districtwide role, he ensures students receive timely, coordinated supports while helping schools navigate staffing challenges, compliance requirements, and long-term funding sustainability. He has led efforts to integrate medical billing for school-based services and has been deeply involved in California’s Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), expanding access to school-based mental health supports through cross-agency collaboration.
Timothy’s leadership is grounded in the belief that student success comes from strong relationships, clear expectations, and learning that is both rigorous and relevant. He is known as a practical, solutions-oriented leader who values transparency, follows through on commitments, and stays closely connected to school sites and the day-to-day work of serving students.
A core part of Timothy’s “why” is rural education. Having taught and led in Nevada County’s rural communities, he believes rural students deserve the same access to opportunity as anywhere else. He is committed to ensuring Nevada County schools prepare students with strong academics and real-world job skills so they are ready to succeed in college, careers, and life, no matter where they choose to go.
